In 2021, the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine relocated to a new, three-story, 30,000 sq. ft. building in the Portland neighborhood of Libbytown. Interactive exhibits at the museum focus on play-based experiences in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math); arts and culture; performing and visual arts; and early childhood education. These include a one-of-a-kind periscopic camera obscura, a stone labyrinth, a giant interactive ball sculpture, an observation beehive, a dress-up theatre, water tables, a teaching garden, a “Meet our Neighbors” gallery, a makerspace, a Maine watershed exhibit, and indoor and outdoor climbing structures. For an additional fee, the theatre regularly presents plays aimed at young audiences in its 100-seat auditorium. The entire Museum & Theatre is ADA accessible.

This library pass entitles the user to a 50% discount for up to 4 people.  This pass includes all programs that are free with admission. It does not apply to the main stage theatre productions or paid programs.  This pass does not entitle the user to members-only events or benefits.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers opportunities for children and families to explore art, science, and culture through dozens of activities and exhibits. Among these are the Thinkering and Steam Innovation Labs; Dino Detective; Music Matrix & Sound Watch; Naturalist's Study; Cave Explorers; and Post Office. The recently re-opened Dover Adventure Playground features a life-size flat-bottomed vintage gundalow boat; a net climber; swings and slides; a 3-story Garrison tower; a 1,200 pound, 3x8 foot climbable Alewife granite fish sculpture; a splash pad; musical instruments; and a life-sized “whale's tail” sculpture perched on the roof of the Dover Pool. Regularly scheduled special events take place throughout the year, including the Dover Mini Maker Faire; Teddy Bear Clinic + Picnic; Toddlerfest; 5K Road Race + Kid-Venture Course; and Earth Day Celebration; among others. A museum shop is on the premises.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire in Dover offers a variety of programs and exhibits for children from pre-school through middle school.

The library offers one pass per day, admitting up to four persons at half the regular admission price. (Full price is currently $11.00 for ages 1+, no charge for under 1, seniors $9)

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, located in Concord, NH, is dedicated to the two astronauts who came from the granite state—Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. The museum offers a range of permanent and changing exhibits that focus on astronomy, aviation, earth and space science, including full-sized replicas of Mercury 7 and Mercury-Redstone rockets, a 1956 XF8U-3 Crusader jet, and items from Star Trek movies, a planetarium, and an observatory. There is a museum shop and café on the premises.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s mission is to inspire every generation to reach for the stars, through engaging, artful and entertaining activities that explore astronomy, aviation, earth and space science.  

The Library pass will admit 4 people free of charge per day. Children under 2 are always free.

The Planetarium show is an additional cost of $7 per person (not included in the library pass discount).

The New England Aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic animals, from the giant Pacific octopus to Northern fur seals to little blue penguins. They offer a wide range of exhibits, including a shark and ray touch tank and the Giant Ocean Tank, a four-story coral reef featuring hundreds of Caribbean animals. In addition, they have an IMAX theatre and run whale watch boat excursions in partnership with Boston Harbor Cruises from April through November.

Located within Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH, the Seacoast Science Center has been providing educational experiences on behalf of New Hampshire State Parks since 1992. The center includes hands-on science exhibits (undersea exploration to marine debris), live animal exhibits which feature creatures that live in the rapidly changing Gulf of Maine ecosystem; and many special events, like “Music-by-the-Sea” concerts and “Sippin' for Seals” (dancing and drinks to support the Marine Mammal rescue Program).

Open 7 days a week, the SEE Science Center in Manchester, NH, is an interactive learning center established to promote the understanding, enjoyment and achievements of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Visitors (ages 3+) encounter hands-on exhibits covering topics such as forces, light, sound electricity, simple machines and more; daily demonstrations; and the LEGO® Millyard Project (Manchester's Amoskeag Millyard as it might have looked circa 1900—including City Hall and the Notre Dame bridge—and all built with commercially-available LEGO bricks). A seasonally scheduled family workshop on weekends may be attended as a drop-in. A science gift shop is on the premises.

The SEE Science Center is an interactive learning center established to promote the understanding, enjoyment and achievements of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The LEGO® Millyard Project on permanent display. Located in Manchester, NH.

The Library has one pass per day -- allowing 2 free admissions.  

Reservations at the museum are highly recommended -- they will turn away walk-in visitors when we reach capacity. 

SEE is closed some major holidays and in early September for annual renovations. Check their home page news and social media for upcoming closures, including closures for extremely inclement weather.
